Office Live Small Business is extremely inexpensive ($15/yr). Live Small Business is also ad free, which cannot be said for many free website building services. it is easy to use because it is a template-based service that lets you build your own websites without the use of code. the service offers free web hosting, email accounts, online support, and easy-to-use website design and management tools. For information on Office Live Small Business, check out http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-u…

Isabella
MSFT Office Live Outreach Team

try http://stingesitebuilder.com
but i say its best to go for a paid package if its for a business website. all online site builders have ads on there free packages which cool when it comes to a business site

Well, all this websites where you can build a free website they never give you the freedom to fully customize your site and also will put an annoying add on your site.
I highly recommend you to try to make a html or php website by your own and then upload it to a free webhost. This way you have a unique site for free. I did the same when i build my site http://uups.tk (btw i have there a tutorial that explains better how to build it for free ) and i tried all the options to make a website, done 1000 until i learned by the hard way which way is the best way to do it.

I hope that it helped you

Where can i go to build a free website?

Limpag: WordPress rides the open source juggernaut

More Sections

EIGHT years after it was started by a 19-year-old college freshman as a blogging software, WordPress now powers 14.7 percent of the world’s top one million websites.

It is used in 55 million websites.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

In his annual State of the Word address last week, WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg also said the open source content management system (CMS) now runs 22 out of every 100 new websites created in the US.

The velocity in WordPress adoption and its dominance illustrate the strength of the open source model, where the community is involved in the development of the software.

It is not a coincidence that the top open source CMS packages today, WordPress and Drupal, also have the most active developer and user communities.

WordPress is no longer just a blogging system but a full-fledged and powerful CMS. A survey of 18,000 WordPress users and developers shows that only eight percent use WordPress purely as a blog. At least 61 percent use WordPress as a CMS and 31 percent use it as a combination of blog and CMS.

With the availability of WordPress, it no longer makes business sense to 1) use a proprietary system to run your website and 2) pay for a CMS or for someone to build you one, unless you truly have unique needs. Your money is better spent on a developer using WordPress.

Company, government and news websites, jobs portals and resume databanks, online magazines, classified ads systems and even gaming companions can all be built easily and for free on WordPress.

I’ve been studying and using open source CMS for 11 years now, starting with PHPNuke, and two of its many forks, Postnuke (now Zikula) and Xaraya. after I left the PHPNuke ecosystem, I then tried in no particular order and at varying degrees of usage Pivotlog, Typo3, eZ Publish, Nucleus CMS and its fork Blog:CMS, Serendipity, Mambo CMS and its progeny Joomla, TextPattern, Campsite (now Newscoop), Habari, Plone and Drupal.

After all these years and CMS packages, I can confidently say that from both a developer’s and user’s points of view, none can match WordPress in ease of use, customization and extensibility in content and website management. in extensibility, only Drupal does it better than WordPress. If you want to do something with your website, chances are WordPress, and any of its 15,000 free plugins, can already do it.

WordPress runs the UK prime minister’s website and various government offices in the United States and throughout the world. it also runs various sections and blogs of the new York Times, CNN, Wall Street Journal, CBS, Yahoo! and Reuters.

With the inclusion of post formats last year, WordPress was finally able to match Drupal in meeting publishers’ needs. the decision by the new York Observer to migrate from Drupal to WordPress is considered this year’s open source CMS coup.

Locally, WordPress runs the main Philippine Government portal at gov.ph. it also runs Inquirer.net, the country’s most visited news website, according to Google Trends for Websites. At a very close second and on its way to grabbing the top spot is ABS-CBNnews.com, which uses Drupal.

When your business decides to put up a website (you cannot afford not to have one), your best bet is to use WordPress. If your current site is all but dead because no one in your company can maintain it, having been built by a developer you no longer have access to, your best move is to rebuild the site using WordPress.

WordPress is not only easy to use and deploy, it is also a light CMS that is easy to maintain and update. even your retiring company president who just discovered e-mail can, with sufficient user permissions, update your site and close security holes on a click of a mouse.

Business Daily (Nairobi)

Mabati Rolling Mills has unveiled a software for estimating quantities of building materials targeting the mass market in an effort to grow market share.

The construction materials manufacturer says the software will help property developers and individuals to estimate quantities of iron sheets or steel products and costs, designs, and roofing structure, saving them wastage and allowing them to work within schedule.

Customers will access the services at Mabati’s service centres in Nairobi and Mombasa. the firm said it is building such service centres in Kisumu and Eldoret.

Investors, especially in rural areas who cannot afford the services of architects and quantity surveyors have relied on contractors’ estimate that, in some cases, turn out to be inaccurate.

“The software can be used by anybody who desires to build, does not know how to start, and does not have the resources to hire an architect, a structural engineer or a quantity surveyor,” said Mr Kaushik Shah, the regional executive of Safal, the owners of Mabati Rolling Mills.

Once data is fed into a computer, it generates sample designs. Currently builders buy physical models of their dream houses, which also increases costs.

Once the designs are generated, the software computes quantities roofing sheets, steel trussing and accessories.

“The difference is the speed and efficiency and also getting exact quantity of materials,” said Mr Shah. “Some builders have specific requirements on size, length or colour. this cannot be mass produced as not everyone will want the same thing.”

Consumers have welcomed the use of technology , saying it will help to cut costs that have been rising.

“I wanted to build a three bed-roomed house in my rural home and a local contractor quoted 13 more iron sheets than I needed,” said Mr Michael Kusimba, illustrating the predicament of many investors who cannot hire professionals. “Such technology would have helped me to buy the exact quantities and divert the remaining cash to other materials,” Mr Kusimba said.

Knowing the right quantities would also benefit builders who borrow to reduce the risk of running short of cash or paying interest rates on loans one did not need. However, the move to turn to technology may cut the demand for professional services from architects and quantity surveyors.

Mabati Rolling Mills says its action has been informed by the shift in consumers’ tastes and preferences amid pressures to save costs.

Although competition has helped to keep prices of cement in check, high levels of inflation have seen the real estate industry soldier a heavier burden linked to imports like oil products and other raw materials.

Steel products

In an effort to cut costs, the property sector players have been using bulldozers, concrete pavers, compactors, excavators, mixers and other machines in mixing concrete, and clearing land, in an effort to lower costs of construction that has seen house prices increase beyond the reach of many consumers.

Makers of cement, corrugated sheets, paints and other steel products are already passing on the rising costs of production to property developers and use of modern technology is being seen as one of the ways to reduce these costs.

KCB, a major player in the mortgage business recently launched a website portal of a mortgages developers club allowing members to access and advertise their products in the East African region.

Creating an Attractive Profile on Dating Websites

The profiles on online dating websites act as a way to attract potential partners to get to know more about the person behind the profile. however most people who sign up on these websites are not able to create profiles that are able to attract the people that they are looking to make a connection with.

Creating a dating website profile is very crucial for anyone who is looking to meet a potential partner on the website. begin by posting a photo that brings out your good features, especially one that you are smiling in. You can also include photos that show you involved in an activity so that you are perceived as a fun person who is approachable. if possible, upload more than one photograph showcasing you in different ways.

Be as honest as possible in your profile as this is the information that a potential mate will read and decide whether to contact you or not. the main objective of signing up on a dating website is so that you are able to meet someone that you can build up a long time relationship with so do not create a false character. nevertheless, the lies will catch up with you later as the relationship progresses.

Have a captivating headline on your profile that will make a potential partner interested in reading more information on your profile. Your profile information should be able to bring out your attributes in a positive light and also make you look like someone that someone would want to get to know better.

When listing the qualities that you are looking for in a partner it is important to be as realistic as possible. Be sincere as you write down these qualities so that you are able to attract a potential mate that is able to complement you and your lifestyle.

Be as clear as possible on the kind of relationship that you are looking for so that you are able to attract potential mates that share the same values and interests as yourself. if this is not clear in your profile you will be overwhelmed by e-mails yet none of them are what you are looking for.

Using dating websites to find love can take time and you will need to be patient as you wait to be contacted, and also when you have to sort through the singles that you want to keep in contact with and those you don’t.

I Hate My Job (But Doing Nothing About It) – Only You Can Take Charge of Your Career

How many times have you heard a friend, colleague, or relative say I hate my job? it seems to be a reoccurring topic with many people – one that can be very tiresome. I only have ten years to retirement and I can’t wait to get out of this place. I despise my boss – I know she is out to get me. this job totally stresses me out, it’s ruining my life. There are many variations but it’s the same old theme. You can’t help but recognize the tone of helplessness in their voices. is it a societal issue that we are not responsible for what happens to us, somebody else always has to bear the blame?

Too often we cruise on autopilot and accept what a company or job gives us. especially in today’s tough job market, you will hear jobs are scarce and I can’t afford to risk making a change. But these are usually the same people who complain a lot, and shoulder stress, without taking action even in prosperous times. Stephen R. Covey states, many people wait for something to happen or someone to take care of them. But the people who end up with the good jobs are the proactive ones who are solutions to problems, not problems themselves, who seize the initiative to do whatever is necessary, consistent with correct principles, to get the job done.

Does anyone really believe that they are going to get a tweet on Twitter, a FaceBook message, an email, or knock on the door stating, we’ve been on an extensive search looking for someone just like you. The fact is you are responsible for your career choices. Only you have the power to be proactive and take the initiative to make a change, if change is needed. If you have a horrible boss or work environment, you have to take responsibility to either work with team members to improve the situation or start making plans to move on.

The key is to make a plan. this doesn’t necessarily involve quitting your job. it may very well be setting your sights on a different position within your company and proactively going after that job. Don’t do anything rash – half the battle is recognizing there is a problem – then developing a conscious plan to do something about it. this should be a written plan and shared with a trusted mentor or respected friend to get another viewpoint. You need to look within and determine what you really want to be doing. Because you can’t have a real plan, until you establish the goal. what can you become totally immersed in and enjoy going to work to do? this is usually easier said than done. it must be practical and reasonably attainable, but nonetheless what you really have a vision of doing. we can’t all venture off to Africa with the Peace Corp. on a humanitarian mission, as we have other life commitments. it may require several intermediary steps, like going back to school for an advanced degree, getting a shorter term well-paying job to save money to start your own business, or getting an entry level job in the field of your dreams to allow you to work toward the position you desire.

Take control of your career (and life) by not accepting the status Quo until it’s too late. Life is too short

Primark denies plans to develop online store

Post by Richard Morris on 24th August 2011 in E-commerce, General news, Retail

Reports that budget fashion chain Primark is looking to develop its first e-commerce portal have been denied by the company.

Marketing and fashion trade press had reported that the high street retailer was inviting bids to build its first transactional website.

Some believe the move would help the company stay in step with rivals such as H&M and Tesco, which are already selling large volumes of clothes online.

Richard Perks, director of retail research at market intelligence company Mintel, told Marketing magazine: “Primark would risk losing market share if it wasn't online”.

But the speculation was rebuffed by the company, a spokesman saying it “has no plans” to diversify into online sales.

Despite the denial, Sarah Peters of Verdict Research said that the very popularity of Primark stores could be a good reason for the company to expand into online selling: “It's a growth sector – there are people who can't get to Primark stores, and some may be put off because (they) get so busy”, she said.

Are You Ready for Google +1 Button Sharing into Circles?

There have been a lot of Google+ updates this week, but by far the most exciting update is this latest update to the Google +1 button which makes content sharing more like Facebook, but ultimately, more useful as a content curation tool for your different Google+ Circles.

Sharing to +Circles

This latest feature update should reduce the friction for sharing to your Google Circles meaning that you can now start to develop you Google+ circles into proper marketing and broadcast channels rather than simply as a chat stream. It also makes it easier for any user to start a conversation in their circles about your content – providing even more incentive to get social on Google+.

Only a preview is available at the moment, but from the screenshot below you can see that after clicking the new +1 button a hover card/dialog box appears which enables you to share the content with any of your circles. in much the same way that you can repost content from within your Google+ stream to specific circles, you simply select the circle you want to share the content into.

+Snippets

From the screenshot above, what you can also see is that there is a mini preview of what your shared post will look like. Much like Facebook, the shared item automatically pulls an image from the document and also a description of the article. However, in order to control this you have to get your head around +Snippets.

To get the right +Snippets working for you, you will need to add the correct Schema.org attributes to the data on your pages. using the correct attributes you can define what the item is, essentially signalling to Google whether or not the item is an article or an image, what the name of of it is and what the description of it is.

If you want to get an immediate sense of how well you are setup for Google +1 Button sharing, Hatlesshacker.com has posted a little hack that will show you how your site will appear on Google+ when it is shared.

Simply change the URL after the “=” sign in this code snippet: https://plusone.google.com/_/+1/confirm?hl=en-US&url=http://searchenginewatch.com

Inline Annotations

Also similar to the Facebook Like button is a new feature for the Google +1 button which, when logged into Google+, shows those people among your friends who clicked the +1 button from a particular page.

To add inline annotations you will need to update your +1 button code using the configuration tool. go to the ‘Annotation’ menu and select ‘inline’ to get the new code.

Bad News vs good News

At face value, the emphasis of Google’s announcement is on conforming to Schema.org to get the most value out of the social sharing. yet, for most website owners the meta data provided by schema.org already exists elsewhere in standard HTML. for instance, itemprop=description is functionally no different to the meta=description tag. It seems non-sensical to require another attribute that says exactly the same thing.

But before you recode your CMS or product database to include these tags, hold back. the sharing button does actually pull your meta description or opening text anyway.

Also, if you have already configured your site for the Facebook OpenGraph, you are in luck because +Snippets does actually recognize that protocol. this is great news, as it means that streamlining your site for Facebook, will naturally streamline it for Google+ too.

That said, Schema.org is a collaboration between Google, Bing and Yahoo, so eventually you will need to get your head around it. furthermore, Schema.org has plenty of other data attributes that can enrich your site.

As I discussed with Timothy Jordan at SES San Francisco, the callback function embedded into the Google +1 button will enable website owners to offer more sophisticated site personalization features to your users. the more Schema.org attributes you are using, the more axioms you will have to offer a personalized experience. If Google’s version of Facebook’s Instant Personalization takes off, we may see Facebook adopting schema.org in favor of the OpenGraph protocol.

Enough about Code, What Should Marketers Do Now?

Google’s version of sharing is now adequately differentiated from Facebook and Twitter to get really excited about it in business meetings.

When you share a website on Facebook via the Like button for publishers, the default setting is to share it with everybody. There is no option to select who you share it with. the only option is whether to share it with a comment or not.

Google’s +1 Button for websites on the other hand means will allow you to share only to a specific circle. this means, for example, that your obsession with bonsai tress really doesn’t have to interfere with your work relationships on the site. or a better example might be your politics, which is often a bone of contention between different social groups. Now, if you are a very active member of a political party or pioneering a particular cause, you won’t necessarily have to dumb down your content sharing in order not to alienate users who are connected to you socially.

In a nutshell, you do not have to tailor your content sharing to the lowest common denominator interest in your network. It also means that, theoretically, you do not need to maintain multiple social networking accounts to manage all your different social groups.

As a marketer, the most exciting difference between Google+ and other social networks is the ability to communicate socially with people who you do not know in person, in everyday life, or have only met online. by creating connections in Google+ and asking people what circles they would like to be added to, you can create interest groups, and start sharing only within those circles.

This means that you could create a “network of listeners” targeted at niche topics where you only share to those with a common interest. One example of where this kind of collaboration could work really well is in following breaking news topics and curating reports in realtime whilst verifying facts for everyone in the conversation – as was possible on Twitter during the UK riots.
